First Edition
Hardcover. First Edition. pp. 653, [1]. Thick 8vo. Bound in publisher's lovely textured salmon cloth over boards with gilt lettering to the spine, and front board; silk ribbon-marker. Black-and-white portrait frontispiece of the author subtitled with a facsimile of their signature. Extremities unusually well-preserved, text-block equally without blemish; fine and housed in its charmingly-illustrated, unclipped, dustjacket showing some wear along the edges of the panels (dustjacket now housed in protective mylar cover). Overall, very good+. Quite uncommon in commerce, especially so in this edition and state. Lovely. The novel Nisso shows how the people of Tajikistan, once enslaved and oppressed by the Khans, began to remake their life on socialist lines in the first years of Soviet power. Nisso, the heroine of the novel, is a freedom-loving mountain girl. She was sold to Aziz-khon, Khan of Yakhbar, but succeeded in running away to the Soviet settlement of Siatang, where she took refuge in the home of a poor mountaineer named Baktior and his old mother Gulriz.
