"Bei meinen chemischen Vorlesungen im Guy-Hospitale, sah ich, als der Harnsteine erwähnt wurde, dass dieser Gegenstand dem grössten Theile meiner Zuhörer ganz neu war, und wie begierig sie das was ich in einigen Vorlesungen darüber sagte, auffassten" (Vorwort). - 1819 kehrte Marcet nach Genf zurück, wo er Professor für medizinische Chemie wurde. - Neben den klinischen Chemie "erforschte er als einer der Ersten die chemische Struktur der Meere. Er formulierte 1819 die Hypothese, dass das Verhältnis der hauptsächlichen Ionen des Meerwassers - Natrium-, Chlorid- und Magnesium-Ionen - in allen Ozeanen genau gleich ist.
