Joan Miró i Ferrà (Catalan pronunciation: [?u'am mi'?o]) (April 20, 1893 - December 25, 1983) was a Spanish-Catalan painter, sculptor, and ceramicist born in Barcelona. Earning international acclaim, his work has been interpreted as Surrealism, a sandbox for the subconscious mind, a re-creation of the childlike, and a manifestation of Catalan pride. In numerous interviews dating from the 1930s onwards, Miró expressed contempt for conventional painting methods as a way of supporting bourgeois society, and famously declared an "assassination of painting" in favour of upsetting the visual elements of established painting.

Klappenbrosch. Condition: Sehr gut. 64 Seiten, zahlr. Abb. Very good copy. - Signed by both artists. Pusblished by Gallery Miro. / Richard Stipl: Stipl's complex and intricate sculptures have been presented worldwide alongside of his Stipl's comples such as Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Jalan Chapman and in the contemporaritext of classical masters such as Felicien Rops, Odilon Redon and Man Ray Most recently his work has been acquired by Museum der bildenden Kunste Leipzig Ray is now on permanent display in the company of Lucas Cranach and Hans Baldung Grind. His work is included worldwide in many important public and private collections (ie. Füsun & Faruk Eczac?ba??, Glenn Close, Lettenmayer Family Collection, Runtak Collection, Art Centre Hugo Voeten, West Collection, Richard Nagy, Museum der bildenden Kunste Leipzig). An exceptional talent in technical and conceptual terms he stands apart from his contem- poraries through the uncanny ability to breathe a life force into his works regardless of media. Recently he has turned to hand carved wood sculpture as his main medium. He takes the forms and production methods of traditional sculpture and combines them with a contemporary albeit timeless themes and narratives of origins and endings. Inspired by memories of his childhood in the former eastern block and his experiences of growing up in the west reflects the duality of past and present in his work and reveals a fascination with history and transience. Poised in the style that evokes the old masters as well as the symbolist artists such as Alfred Kubin and Edward Munch, he translates, quotes and paraphrases the centuries of our inherent image making and creates an alternate universe of anxious and unpredictable situations of fictitious and personal history that can be experienced as beautiful or uncom- fortable, banal or serious. His latest undertaking is an ongoing collaboration with Josef Zlamal which is underpinned by a common desire to explore themes of mortality and permanence and in provoking the viewer to think for themselves. They liken their work to classical music of Wagner or Rach- maninoff that requires a degree of concentration on behalf of the viewer. / Josef Zlamal: . His elaborate drawings have been exhibited in the company of contemporary and classic masters (e.g. Otto Dix, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Arnulf Rainer, Slawomir Elsner or George Grosz) in leading museums for contemporary art - Power Station of Art Shanghai. Recently, Zlamal's work has been included in the collection of Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig and can be seen in the permanent show of the museum's Old Masters Painting Collection (with Lucas Cranach or Hans Baldung Grien). Some of Zlamal's most significant works (essentially monumental triptychs) are subsequent- ly being acquired by premier private art collectors (i.e. Lettenmayer Family Collection).Josef Zlamal's practice is characterised by an immediately recognisable visual language that draws from diverse range of references and artistic influences including medieval art (Hieronymus Bosch, Albrecht Dürer, Lucas Cranach) and expressionism (Otto Dix, George Grosz, Alfred Kubin), silent cinema (Fritz Lang, Carl Theodor Dreyer, Sergei Eisenstein) and literature (Friedrich Dürrenmatt, Thomas Bernhard, Karel Capek). Zlamal's primary material is hand-made paper and ink, nevertheless, the artist has expanded his practice to encompass drawing on sculpture and objects, monumental digital prints, installation and moving image. Zlamal's drawings are generated through time-consuming layering (palimpsest) during the process of which the artist repeatedly immerses the drawings into a water bath and washes them out. Part of the composition disappears, but what is essential remains. His latest undertaking ongoing collaboration with Richard Stipl is based on mutual respect and trust but also by a crucial bond with classic materials like wood metal and paper.
