As a young man in his early twenties, Mr. Moore first visited that wild country north of us. For the next several years he traveled over its rivers and its mountain passes through frozen lands, visiting trading posts, carrying mail, working with his father in establishing the town site of Skagway, and building the first and longest wharf in Alaska. Still a young man, he wooed and one in marriage Klinget-Syee, daughter of Thlinget Chief George Shot ridge. In his record he portrays for us faithfully the hazards and adventures of early settlers whom he knew intimately, modes of travel, the development of the canneries, the customs and festivities of the native Indians.
