The center (and a bit more) is a black and white photograph of school children. The text reads: 50 Years After Brown v. Board of Education Quality Education for All is Not Yet a Reality. If you this the struggle is over, think again. NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc. Still Here. Still Fighting for Your Rights. www.naccpldf.org. Logo commemorating the 50th anniversary at the bottom right. Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, was a landmark case in which the Court declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students to be unconstitutional. The decision overturned the Plessy v. Ferguson decision of 1896. The Court's unanimous decision stated that "separate educational facilities are inherently unequal." De jure racial segregation was ruled a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution. The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF) is the country's first and foremost civil and human rights law firm. Founded in 1940 under the leadership of Thurgood Marshall, who subsequently became the first African-American U.S. Supreme Court Justice, LDF was launched at a time when the nation's aspirations for equality and due process of law were stifled by widespread state-sponsored racial inequality. LDF's mission has always been transformative: to achieve racial justice, equality, and an inclusive society. LDF's victories established the foundations for the civil rights that all Americans enjoy today. In its first two decades, LDF undertook a coordinated legal assault against officially enforced public school segregation. This campaign culminated in Brown v. Board of Education, the landmark Supreme Court decision in 1954. The Court's unanimous decision overturned the "separate but equal" doctrine of legally sanctioned discrimination, widely known as Jim Crow.

Established in 1971 and still operational as of 2025, the 'M' Ensemble is Florida's longest-running African American theater company. Davidson's El Hajj Malik was written when he was a college student at Dillard University in the 1960s and was widely performed nationally and internationally, according to his obituary in the Louisiana Weekly.[1] [1] Ryan Whirty, "Playwright, professor and former editor of The Louisiana Weekly dies," The Louisiana Weekly, May 6, 2019. Condition: Very good. - Over 30 words typed on his 6 inch high by 8 inch wide buff "Free Synagogue / New York" stationery. Stephen Samuel Wise is pleased to accept American impresario and lecture agent James B. Pond's invitation to serve on the committee welcoming Maurice Maeterlinck to America. Wise writes "I accept with much pleasure your kind invitation to serve as a member of the Honorary Reception Committee." Signed "Stephen S. Wise". Folded for mailing, with a small piece out from the top left corner. Very good. Born in Budapest, Stephen Samuel Wise (1874-1949) emigrated to the US when his father accepted service as rabbi of Brooklyn's Congregation Baith Israel Anshei Emes. After completing his studies at Columbia University, Wise pursued rabbinical studies under several noted rabbis of the era, including Richard J.H. Gottheil, Kohut, Gersoni, Joff, and Margolis. He was appointed assistant rabbi of NYC's Congregation B'nai Jeshurun becoming the Congregation's senior rabbi later that year. Taking over as rabbi of Portland, Oregon's Congregation Beth Israel, he attacked many of the social and political ills facing the country. He soon broke with the traditional reform movement and established his "Free Synagogue" in 1907, launching a movement. Wise was an early supporter of Zionism and laid the groundwork for what became the Zionist Organization of America and served as president of the American Jewish Congress. His good friend Albert Einstein profoundly praised him in a tribute that Einstein presented at the celebration of Wise' 60th birthday. In 1914, Wise co-founded the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Wise, early on, saw the threat posed by Hitler's rise in Germany and fought to shape U.S. public opinion against the growing German threat, leading efforts for a Jewish Boycott of Germany and the creation of the World Jewish Congress.James B. Pond, the American impresario and lecture agent who headed the J.B. Pond Lyceum Bureau, brought the great Belgian poet Maurice Maeterlinck to America for a series of lectures. The first lecture took place at Carnegie hall on January 2nd, 1920. Unfortunately Maeterlinck failed to carry out his intention to lecture in English because of his labored "phonetic" English. He declared his intention to continue his lectures in French and have the translation read by another person. As a result, the lecture tour was a failure and lawsuits ensued on both sides.

Condition: Fine condition. A membership flyer printed in April of 1958 published as part of a fundraising drive around the Little Rock Nine. The NAACP was actively fundraising in 1958 to raise money for legal costs in the face of state-led actions in the south attempting to ban the organization. The risk of membership lists from the south being published made the growth of membership in the northern and western US of paramount importance for the organization. The final leaf offers the reader to "stand with the Little Rock Nine and enclose $. for membership." We find no examples of this flyer in auction records or on the market at the time of writing (January 2026). Folded flyer measuring 7 ¾ x 5 ? inches, bifolium.
