Complete with the black-and-white portrait frontispice of Louis Riel, Metis leader, and accompanied by a full-page photographic portait of Gabriel Dumont (pp. 92). Light wear to the extremities, de-accessioned from the Bibliotheque College Bourget bearing their accession call number to the base of spine, and unobtrusive circular institutional stamp to the endpapers and title page, some light pencil ticks and marks to the margins of some leaves (entirely unaffecting the legibility of the text). References: Peel 1517. Provenance: from the personal library of Abbot J.T. Donat Fortier bearing his signature to the title page, and personal ex-libris book plate which has been affixed to the ffep. Overall, good+. Comprises a collection of articles, letters, reports, unverified statements, broadsides, pamphlets, declarations, newspaper accounts, and other miscellany relating to the Northwest Rebellion, the trial, and the execution of Louis Riel. The slant, as one might expect, is in Riel's favour. Ouimet (1840-1910) was a Montreal lawyer and journalist. Peel (3d) 1517 calls for de Montigny's biography of Gabriel Dumont to appear at pp. 314-398, but either the copy seen by the editors of this bibliography was different than ours, or they are mistaken. Our copy, at those pages, contains only reproductions of documents relating to Riel (with incidental mention of Dumont). Dumont's biography commences at p. 92 in our copy, and consists of two parts, the conclusion of which is difficult to discern as this work is not well-edited, if edited at all. In any event, this title contains much interesting information (all in French) and reproduces material that is often overlooked in similar English-language accounts.
