These factors are dealt with chronoligically up to WWII, for Holland, Belgium, France and Germany with the final section explaining the state of the defence at the time of publication. The second part is a travel guide dealing in detail with the location, access and condition of remaining examples. Holland and Belgiium are covered individually while five sections cover France, mainly the German Atlantic Wall, including the Channel Islands, with the borders with Germany and the Maginot Line closing the guide.
