En 1637, il obtint la qualité de vicaire général de l'archevêque de Besançon, Claude d'Achey. Philippe Chifflet mourut le 11 janvier 1657.Il était l'ami du célèbre Henri Dupuis. Il a publié : Concilii Tridentini canones, cum prsefatione et notis, Anvers, 1640, et a donné une édition ainsi qu'une traduction de l'Imitation de Jésus-Christ. A également publié : Une histoire du prieuré de Bellefontaine.
