The wrapper is a little edgeworn and lightly soiled towards the edges of the panels; the spine ends are a touch chipped, resulting in small losses to the head of the spine. The book is a touch bumped to the corners and spine ends. Signed by the author to the front endpaper. The binding is perhaps a touch loose on occasion, the pages lightly age-toned towards the edges. Illustrated with monochrome and colour plates bound to rear. A bright signed first edition.

Christopher Lever was a zoologist and author of works on nature.Illustrated with a full colour frontispiece and 15 monochrome and colour plates. Collated complete.In the publisher's original cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper.This work was written as a collaboration between I. R. P. Heslop, G. E. Hyde and R. E. Stockley and provides a comprehensive monograph on the Purple Emperor butterfly. The work consists of a collection of papers from the three authors on the butterfly in focus and is accompanied by photographic plates taken by G. E. Hyde including portraits of the authors. In the publisher's original cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally lovely with only slight bumping to the tail of the spine and to the extremities of the boards. Ink inscription by the author to front free endpaper with only a very minor mark to the front pastedown. The wrap is generally smart with minor chipping, marks, very minor loss to the tail of the front and very small closed tears to the head and tail of the spine.
