Laid in are a handwritten note, a newspaper clipping entitled "Rote Erde" (The Land of the Red Earth," as Westphalia has been known), and a clipping of a reproduction of a woodcutting from another volume about the history of Westphalia (apparently from a magazine). Werner Rolevinck (1425-1502) was a Carthusian author, born in Laer. He died in 1502 of the plague. De Laude Veteris Saxoniae nunc Westphaliae Dictae (c. 1478) is one of his most enduring works, and it covers the history of his homeland in Westphalia.
