Mit einem wachsamen Auge verfolgten die Fotografen Friedrich Aeschbacher (1877?1930) und Werner Rubin (1909?2004) die städtebaulichen Veränderungen in der Region Olten. Über viele Jahrzehnte dokumentierten die beiden Meister ihres Fachs öffentliche und private Ereignisse in der Stadt. Eine wichtige Einnahmequelle bildeten für Werner Rubin auch Aufträge von Gewerbe und Industrie. Aus dem Segel- oder Motorflugzeug machte er zudem schon früh qualitativ hochstehende Luftaufnahmen. Aeschbacher und sein Nachfolger Rubin begnügten sich nicht damit, den dramatischen Wandel selbst fotografisch umzusetzen. Sie ergänzten die eigenen Aufnahmen mit fremden Bildern und schufen so eine einzigartige Sammlung, deren Umfang und Vielfalt bisher wenig bekannt war. Die ältesten Aufnahmen reichen bis in die Anfänge der Fotografie zurück. Mit der Unterstützung von Heinz Rubin vereinigen die Autoren eindrückliche, ästhetische und regionalgeschichtlich interessante Werke zu einem attraktiven Fotoband.Das Buch erscheint zur gleichnamigen Ausstellung im Historischen Museum Olten (22.
