Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. A collection of five different titles from the Observer's Pocket Book series. All uniformly bound in cloth of varying colour, with titles front and spine. All illustrated. 16mos. All volumes in generally very good condition, some are slightly pushed at spine ends, most have a little dust marking to the upper text block edge, and some have a previous owner's name or inscription internally, else are neat, clean bright and tight. All in glossy, illustrated dust wrappers, some lightly bumped on extreme edges, some price clipped and almost all a little shelf worn and sunned, faded on the spine. A mixture of editions and printings but all in the style of dust wrappers introduced in 1970 - glossy and laminated with a distinctive square, framed illustration - and prevalent until around 1980. Observer's Pocket books is a series of pocket-sized books published by Frederick Warne and covering topics such as hobbies, art, nature and history. The first in the series - British Birds - was published in 1937. The 99th title, the Observer's Book of Observer's Books was released in 1999 (by Peregrine Books) in a matching format. The series was rounded to 100 with the publication of Wayside and Woodland in 2003. Many of the titles have been revised, reprinted, updated and released in different dust wrappers over the years - it is estimated that there are some 800 variations - and have become collectible: the earlier numbers and rarer issues can be hard to find We have many books from the Observer Pocket Book series in stock and can offer generous discounts to those ordering more than one at a time. Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - Every builder's first working circuit is usually preceded by a string of circuits that didn't work - a resistor sized from memory instead of a calculation, a series and a parallel connection quietly swapped, or a part pushed past its rating until it starts to smell hot. That gap between the idea in your head and a circuit that behaves the way you expected is rarely a talent problem. It's a missing set of mental shortcuts, and most resources fail to supply them: dense references front-load formal derivations before a beginner has completed a single working circuit, while lighter project books hand over wiring instructions for one gadget without ever explaining why the circuit works. This handbook closes that gap with a rule-of-thumb-first method, verified against fully worked, unit-tracked examples and proven out in real hands-on builds - with the full formal derivation available in an appendix for anyone who wants to see exactly where a number came from. Comfort with basic algebra is all that's required to start.>Working through it, you will: Size components and read a schematic using working intuition, checked against fully worked numerical examples with every unit tracked so a wrong answer is easy to catch.>Design a regulated power supply, build filters and timing circuits, and work with digital and programmable logic devices.Build genuinely current connected-device skills, including low-power wireless data links and the basic security questions every connected device raises.>Understand what changes once a prototype needs to become an actual product - designing for manufacture, realistic cost estimation, and the regulatory and safety questions that come with selling rather than just building.>This book is written for hobbyists, self-taught makers, and students who want to build real, correctly rated electronic devices rather than memorize theory in isolation - readers with basic algebra and genuine curiosity, whether they're wiring their first LED or preparing a working prototype for its first production run.Open the book and start closing the gap between the circuit in your head and the one actually working on your bench, one verified rule of thumb at a time.…

Comfort with basic algebra is all that's required to start.Organized in four progressive parts - Foundations, Signal and Power, Programmable Systems, and Motion, Audio and Delivery - the book runs from Ohm's Law through components, semiconductors, and sensors; operational amplifiers, filters, and timing circuits; power-supply and battery-charging design; digital logic; microcontroller programming and programmable logic devices; short- and long-range wireless connectivity; motor control and audio circuits; and finally the practical realities of taking a working prototype toward a manufactured, compliance-aware product. Working through it, you will: Size components and read a schematic using working intuition, checked against fully worked numerical examples with every unit tracked so a wrong answer is easy to catch.Wire and interface real sensors, program a microcontroller loop that reads them and drives an output, and manage power for a battery-powered design. Understand what changes once a prototype needs to become an actual product - designing for manufacture, realistic cost estimation, and the regulatory and safety questions that come with selling rather than just building.Every chapter follows the same dependable structure: learning objectives, a rule of thumb before the formal derivation, fully worked examples, a hands-on build or case study, and closing practice problems with a full answer key - supported by two appendices covering the complete math derivations and international wiring standards for readers outside the US-oriented main text. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. A single ionizing particle, invisible and impossible to predict in advance, can flip a memory bit, destroy a power transistor instantly, or quietly degrade an amplifier's precision until a mission fails months later. For engineers designing electronics for space, aircraft altitude, or any radiation-intense environment, this is not a remote risk. It is a design requirement with zero tolerance for guesswork, and most engineers are left piecing it together from a datasheet paragraph here and a standards document there. This handbook closes that gap with one continuous framework spanning fifteen chapters, more than a hundred fully worked numerical examples, and a complete reference back matter. It develops the physics of how a single strike or an accumulated dose damages a semiconductor device, every major failure mechanism across digital, analog, and power electronics, the process-, circuit-, and system-level hardening techniques that address each mechanism specifically, and the test methodology and hardness-assurance framework that turns a design decision into a verified, defensible case.Working through this handbook, engineers will be able to: - Understand why a device fails, not only that it fails, through the physics of total ionizing dose, displacement damage, and single-event effects - Calculate real threshold shifts, cross-sections, and on-orbit upset rates from first-principles relationships, using one consistent, fully worked method - Apply a coherent three-layer hardening strategy across process, circuit, and system architecture, and know exactly which layer addresses which mechanism - Size real hardening structures, including guard rings, interlocked storage cells, and error-correcting and triple-modular-redundant architectures, from real parameters - Plan and interpret heavy-ion, proton, and total-dose test campaigns, and assemble a mission-level rate and dose budget from the results - Build a full radiation-hardness-assurance case connecting mission environment, margin philosophy, and test evidence into one framework - Reinforce every chapter with practice problems and complete, explained answer keysChapters move systematically from the space and atmospheric radiation environment through total ionizing dose, displacement damage, and the full family of single-event effects, including upset, transient, functional interrupt, latchup, burnout, and gate rupture, across digital, analog, power, and programmable-logic circuits. Later chapters cover hardening by process and by design, system-level fault-tolerant architectures, complete test methodology, and the hardness-assurance process tying requirements to flight qualification. A glossary, list of symbols, chapter-referenced index, and formula appendix make this book as useful as an ongoing desk reference as it is a cover-to-cover read, with coverage spanning both the space and the atmospheric environment relevant to avionics.Written for practicing electrical, electronics, and systems engineers in aerospace, defense, satellite, and avionics programs, as well as reliability and hardness-assurance engineers, test engineers, instructors, and graduate students entering the field. No prior radiation-effects background is assumed, though familiarity with semiconductor devices and basic circuit design will help.Stop assembling radiation-hardness knowledge one fragment at a time. Add this handbook to your engineering reference library and begin building a genuine, engineering-grade understanding of why electronics fail in radiation environments, and exactly how to design, test, and verify against it, starting with the very first chapter. This item is printed on demand. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…
