Illustrated Wraps. Condition: Very Good. Cover Art by Robert Murray. (illustrator). Signed by Author Joe Haldeman, on the Story Title Page for Passages Carefully handled, Text clean, Bindings firm. The magazine is from the estate of Jeri Kandel of Sarasota, Florida. Jeri an aspiring Sci Fi/Horror author was active in the Florida West Coast Sci Fi Fantasy community. She was a "volunteer" for DragonCon in Atlanta and other Florida West Coast and Orlando events as an active member of ASFA where she acquired amazing autographs. Passages is a good, Hugo-nominated short story [1983] by Haldeman, solidly written and well received, but not a cornerstone of his career. It's worth noting for fans and collectors of his work, and it helps fill in the story of his development as a writer of short fiction. HALDEMAN, Joe (b. 1943). American science fiction author, best known for The Forever War (Hugo and Nebula Awards). A Vietnam veteran, his works explore war, technology, and human experience; essential figure in late 20th-century speculative fiction. Ref: isfdb.

"In A Season In Hell Rimbaud identifies Selfless Love as the ideal solution. To be absolutely modern is to remake life, to re-invent love. It is Rimbaud who pays the price for not following the path he lights, for not fulfilling his reason for rebellion. The romantic movement which preceded him also died the death of indulgence. Rimbaud in his own poetry worked his way through the crushing influences of that romanticism, pre-eminently Hugo, Musset and Baudelaire. And in passing beyond them, brought poetry into the Twentieth Century." (from the prospectus) HBS 69371. $1,500. Signed.

Add to basketFirst edition, inscribed by the head of the firm on the title page, "In aufrichtiger Verehrung Stefan Rath" ("in sincere esteem"), for the Viennese salonnière and writer Helene Bettelheim-Gabillon (1857-1946), with her delivery receipt loosely inserted. Rath (1876-1960) assumed control of the renowned Viennese glass firm J. & L. Lobmeyr in 1902 and headed it until 1938; this is the firm's centenary retrospective, extensively illustrated with examples of its work. The text was by Robert Schmidt, director of the Kunstgewerbe-Museum, Frankfurt am Main. "Schmidt's text consists of a history of the firm from its foundation by Josef Lobmeyr (an enlightened industrialist of the type of Josiah Wedgwood), and an account of the great craftsmen employed during its long history. A survey of the firm's productions gives us a very clear insight into the development of the art of glassmaking during the nineteenth century" (The Connoisseur, Vol. LXXVII, p. 180). Quarto. With 36 collotype plates with captioned tissue guards; in-text illustrations. Original white quarter cloth and green boards, spine lettered in black, front cover lettered in white. Light soiling to spine, a little shaken: a very good copy.
Large 8vo. Full red leather boards. Housed in slipcase. Leaves of mould-made letterpress sheet paper, 8 photogravures printed on handmade etching paper. Signed by Mapplethorpe and Schmidt on colophon. With the prospectus for the publication loosely inserted.ÊLimited edition #983/1000.
