Often considered the Dean of American Ski Pioneers, Otto Schniebs was the author of several books on skiing, one being Modern Ski Technique, written in collaboration with John McCrillis the best known. His main claim to fame, however, is as a ski coach. As a coach Otto Schniebs placed nine men on one Olympic team and seven on another. He skied with Gretchen Fraser, the first American to win an Olympic gold medal (1948). Otto has received accolades from all over the country, including the White House and many of America s best skiers. He was listed in the 1966 issue of Who s Who in America. Otto made an indelible mark on skiing in America by coaching many of America s finest skiers and bringing out their potential. Otto Schniebs was elected to the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame in 1967.

This title was first issued in serialized format in Dartmouth Alumni Magazine, through February 1932. It was then published in magazine format before finally making its way to hardcover. Book is tight and clean. Binding and hinges are strong and sound. A tiny dry-crack to paper in front gutter having no effect on strength or structure of the binding or hinge. Book is tight and sound. Bluish-gray cloth panels stamped in silver. Shelf-rubbing to tip of upper rear corner. The plum here is the super-rare original DJ. DJ shows small chips along edges. $1.25 price intact on flap. A 1967 inductee into the U.S. Ski Hall of Fame, Otto Schniebs is considered the "Dean of American Ski Pioneers," He was the author of several books on skiing, his most celebrated being this one, Modern Ski Technique. Illustrated from two 16mm motion pictures by the authors (illustrator). Eighth edition, eleventh printing. McCrillis was elected into the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame in 1966. McCrillis and Schniebs collaborated to film the Mooselauke downhill race at the NSA annual convention in Chicago in 1932. This was the first American Ski Film ever made. And this collaboration quickly led to the creation of this ski manualone of the first technical books on skiing ever published in the U.S. "Modern Ski Technique" first appeared serially in the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine (1931-32) and was first printed in book form in 1932. Briefly inscribed by McCrillis on the ffep. Faint rubbing extremities, still near fine in very good, lightly toned and edge worn jacket, with some shallow chipping, in mylar cover. Full blue cloth, in dust jacket.
