Hardcover. Condition: Very good. First Edition. Octavo: 88, [2]-24 pp. with illustrations and maps, including the folding plan at the rear. Original brown cloth binding, with black-stamped borders and a rendering of a coastal scene, gilt-stamped titling, and brown endpapers. Sparse pencil marginalia. Located on the Atlantic Ocean's Jersey Shore, Ocean Grove was founded in 1869 as an outgrowth of the camp meeting movement in the United States, when a group of Methodist clergymen, led by William B. Osborn and Ellwood H. Stokes, formed the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association to develop and operate a summer camp meeting site on the New Jersey seashore. By the early 20th century, the popular Christian meeting ground became known as the "Queen of Religious Resorts". This early history acts as a prospectus and includes the first five annual reports (the fifth is preceded by its own title page), names of the members of the Ocean Grove C.M. Association, architectural views, a list of lot and cottage holders, etc.
