Geoffrey Boothroyd believes that the over-and-under shotgun has its origin in the Bock Doppelflinte produced in Germany and of rather inferior workmanship in the early days; he is supported in his view by the great authority, Major Hugh Pollard in his book, Shotguns, published in 1925. Whatever its origin there can be no doubt that the over-and-under shotgun is now immensely popular throughout the world especially among clay pigeon enthusiasts.
