Standard reference work on nautical matters with sections on: purchasing a yacht; stretching new sails; sailing close-hauled; reefing; getting under storm canvas; floating anchor; signal lights; crews' uniforms; navigation; charts; instruments; tides and winds; gybing; gaff-topsails; and much more. The first plate shows standing and running rigging of a cutter yacht, and the second the sails of the same. A worn copy with some spotting and edgewear to the covers. The spine is chipped at the tips and has a small piece missing near the top and a split at the upper right side. The text is good with some scattered foxing and soiling. There is an owner's blindstamp on the flyleaf and some staining to the upper portion of both plates.
