This copy from the library of Wim J. M. Maassen bears an ex libris from the library of Josef Schedel, born in Bamberg, Januar 10th 1866. He studied pharmacy and natural sciences at the universities of Munich and Kiel. In 1886 he emigrated to Yokohama (Japan) where he installed the German Pharmacy. In 1899 he came back to Munich. 1909 he went to Beijing as head of the German Pharmacy. In 1922 he finally turned back to Germany and died in Bamberg, April 7th 1943. He was a keen collector of mollusks and member of the German Malacological Society for more than 50 years.
