Page edges uncut and many gatherings unopened. Book very good plus, the cloth bright and the gilt strong, with only minor rubbing and a few small marks. Dust jacket good to very good, complete, with toning to the spine, general grubbiness and marking to the panels, rubbing and small chips at the spine ends and corners, and a few short closed tears and creases at the edges. An unusually well-preserved copy in the scarce original jacket. A notorious anti-suffrage polemic by the physician and bacteriologist Sir Almroth Wright, published at the height of the militant campaign for votes for women. Wright attempts to rebut the arguments for women's political equality before advancing his own case against the parliamentary franchise, based upon supposed female deficiencies in physical force, intellect and public morality. His book provides a striking record of the prejudices confronted by the suffrage movement. Copies of the first edition occur in the publisher's cloth, but survival in the original dust jacket is considerably less common.…
