hardcover. Condition: Acceptable. Please see the condition note after this for details, if this is missing please consider Acceptable to mean poor quality that could include major staining, water damage, writing, missing dustjacket, etc etc. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.…

Tall octavo. xxi, 531pp. Two heavy bumps, causing an 1¼" tear in the rear board and pastedown, and a couple of other tiny tears (which have all been neatly strengthened), thus near very good in a worn and toned, near very good dust jacket with small chips and several white paint spots on the spine. From the library of Tony Award-winning actress Marian Seldes, with a gift inscription on the front fly: "To Marian with all my love for a Happy Christmas affectionately Tony xx New York 1975." Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. A first edition - first printing of Volume I of "The Letters of Virginia Woolf", published by The Hogarth Press in 1975. Illustrated throughout with monochrome photographic plates. ***Very good in sea-green cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The gilt is still beautifully bright. The boards are clean and only slightly marked. Head and tail of spine just slightly creased, with a slight crease to the top corner tip of the front board. No other bumps or creases. Other corners sharp. No reading lean to the binding. No reading creases to the spine. Spine tight. Page block edges foxed, mainly to the top edge (please see scans). Internally near fine with no previous ownership inscriptions or annotations. Pages clean with no foxing. No creases or tears. The paper used for this production is thin but of a nice quality. ***In a very good illustrated dustwrapper, which retains the original publisher's printed price of £7.75 net. The dustwrapper is complete, with no chips or tears. Some light creasing to the extremities, mainly to the top and tail of the spine. Some light browning and partial fading to the spine colour. Foxing to the inner flaps. ***242mm x 160mm. 531 pages including an Appendix of Nicknames used in Volume I and an extremely detailed 21pp Index at the back of the book. ***'The first volume of Virginia Woolf's collected letters covers the formative period of her life, from her childhood until she married Leonard Woolf at the age of 30. They are amusing, teasing, affectionate, reflective letters, and even as a child, even on a postcard, she could not scribble a line without leaving her distinctive mark on it.' (Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***First printing of the true first edition in very good condition. The individually published "Letters of Virginia Woolf" are quite hard to find now in collectable condition. We have listed the first four volumes of the six volume set (please see scans). ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Angelica Garnett (illustrator).…
