Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, a revised and edited second edition, is a compendium of the history of the British horse racing "Turf," popular culture, and the social impact of the sport. The author traces the development of the Turf, through the evolution of the events, the horses, the owners, and the men who have made the sport great. The book is full of character sketches and anecdotes of the sport's most notable personalities, as well as insights into the training and breeding of racehorses, and the betting culture that has grown up around the sport. The author focuses on the historical context of horse racing, covering its evolution from a medieval sport for the aristocracy to a modern pastime enjoyed by millions. The book also examines the impact of the Turf on British culture, exploring its portrayal in art, literature, and film. A must-read for anyone interested in horse racing, this book provides an illuminating and deeply informed account of the sport through the ages. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
