Its particular advantages are, first, that the Epistles and Gospels are rendered in J. B. Phillips' well-known translation and, secondly, in the simple and valuable notes provided by H. W. Dobson. The Christian Year is intended not only for those newly or about-to-be confirmed but for those who for one reason or another are unable to attend Holy Communion. All these should find that the modern translations and explanatory notes will provide a fresher and more intelligent understanding of the Communion Service. (From the dust jacket). Bound in a light olive green cloth, covers are plain with gilt lettering on the spine. 311 pp. Dust jacket is a dark maroon with white lettering, protected by a mylar cover. Both book and dust jacket are VG with moderate shelf wear. Textblock foredge is foxed. Leaves have lightly toned but are predominantly unmarked, with the exception of previous owner's annotation on the front flyleaf and a rather impassioned annotation on page 223. A solid copy.
