However, front gutter is badly cracked and crown of spine badly abraded; d.j. has damp stains; frontis. is detached and chipped along right edge, but the striking photo-portrait of the author's mother remains pristine--she, whose father was one of the founders of the Chartist Movement, inspired her son to become General Secretary of the Communist Party of Great Britain. This volume would reward rebinding.
