Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. vi, 186 pages. Illustrations (some with color). Index. Photo Credits. Approximately 8.25 and 11.25 inches. Inscribed by Sidey on half-title page. DJ has slight wear and soiling. Hugh Sidey (September 3, 1927 - November 21,…2005) was an American journalist who worked for Life magazine starting in 1955, then moved on to Time magazine in 1957. He covered several Presidents, from Eisenhower to Clinton, and was author of the book Time Hugh Sidey's Profiles of the Presidents. He also hosted the PBS series The American Presidents. Sidey served as president of the board of directors of the White House Historical Association from 1998 to 2001, during the White House's bicentenary celebration. Former president George H. W. Bush delivered a eulogy at Sidey's funeral. Inscribed to Nicholas Christopher, believed to be the Nicholas Christopher (born 1951) who is an American novelist, poet and critic, the author of sixteen books: six novels, eight volumes of poetry, a critical study of film noir, and a novel for children. Christopher graduated from Harvard College with an A.B. in English Literature. After traveling extensively abroad, he returned to New York and began publishing his work. He taught at New York University and Yale before receiving an appointment as a professor on the permanent faculty of the Writing Program of the School of the Arts at Columbia University. From the 1970s, his work has appeared in The New Yorker, Esquire, The New Republic, The Paris Review, The Nation, and The New York Review of Books. For 43 years, Hugh Sidey has been reporting on the White House for Time, Inc. His lively column, The Presidency, has been featured in Time magazine during the past seven administrations. Nobody understands the complex interplay of personality and power in the Oval Office better than he. Nobody writes about it with as much vitality and depth of experience. Lavishly illustrated with photographs from Time magazine's exceptional archives, this is a bracing and intimate view of our last eleven presidents, from FDR to Bill Clinton. At the heart of the book is a fresh profile of each man, drawn from Sidey's unparalleled access to the inner workings of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Vintage columns, each with a new introduction, can be found here as well.

Add to basketCondition: Good. Signed magazine cover . 26.5 x 19.3 cm. Sixteen hours had passed since the Twin Towers crumbled and fell, and people kept telling Rudy Giuliani to get some rest. The indomitable mayor of New York City had spent the day and night holding his town together. He arrived at the World Trade Center just after the secon…d plane hit, watched human beings drop from the sky and ? when the south tower imploded ? nearly got trapped inside his makeshift command center near the site. Then he led a battered platoon of city officials, reporters and civilians north through the blizzard of ash and smoke, and a detective jimmied open the door to a firehouse so the mayor could revive his government there. Giuliani took to the airwaves to calm and reassure his people, made a few hundred rapid-fire decisions about the security and rescue operations, toured hospitals to comfort the families of the missing and made four more visits to the apocalyptic attack scene.

Softcover. Gerald R. Ford's picture appeared on the August 9, 1976 Time Magazine cover with the caption "Ford Closes In". He is pictured at his desk in a suit vest with his sleeves rolled up. He has personally autographed in crisp clear black ink on the white of his sleeve "Gerald R. Ford". The cover has a few minor wrinkles at…the extreme edges but the autographed picture is bright and clean. The magazine cover is separating from the staples at the fold but this is unnoticed in the all glass document frame that it is enclosed in. A very nice, authentic, presidential autograph. One of a kind.

Quarto, featuring a thirteen page article on the Moon landing, offering information on the crew, their accomplishments, and the public's reaction. Boldly signed on the cover by Neil Armstrong at far right middle. In very good… condition. Cover illustration by Louis Glanzman. Commander Neil Armstrong and lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin landed the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle on July 20, 1969, at 20:17 UTC, and Armstrong became the first person to step onto the Moon's surface six hours and 39 minutes later. Aldrin joined him 19 minutes later, and they spent roughly two hours together exploring the site they had named Tranquility Base upon landing. Armstrong's first step onto the lunar surface was broadcast on live TV to a worldwide audience. He described the event as "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." Apollo 11 effectively proved US victory in the Space Race to demonstrate spaceflight superiority, by fulfilling a national goal proposed in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy, "before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth.".

Nguyen Van Thieu was the President of South Vietnam from 1967 to 1975, during the latter part of the Vietnam War. He was a general in the Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces and head of a military junta before becoming president in a rigged election and played a key role in the government's efforts to resist North Vietnamese forces. Thieu's presidency was marked by significant challenges, including political instability, corruption, and the ongoing war. His government was also heavily supported by the United States, which provided substantial military and economic aid. By 1975, as North Vietnamese forces advanced, Thieu's government was unable to maintain its position, leading to his resignation and eventual exile.

A unique example signed by the greatest rocket engineer of the 20th century. Wernher von Braun is widely regarded as the greatest rocket engineer of the 20th century in his role with the United States civilian space agency NASA. In his 20s and early 30s, von Braun was the central figure in Germany's rocket development program, responsible for the design and realization of the deadly V-2 combat rocket during World War II. After the war, he and some of his rocket team were taken to the U.S. as part of the then-secret Operation Paperclip. Von Braun worked on the US Army intermediate range ballistic missile (IRBM) program before his group was assimilated by NASA, under which he served as director of the newly-formed Marshall Space Flight Center and as the chief architect of the Saturn V launch vehicle, the superbooster that propelled the Apollo spacecraft to the Moon. According to one NASA source, he is "without doubt, the greatest rocket scientist in history. His crowning achievement was to lead the development of the Saturn V booster rocket that helped land the first men on the Moon in July 1969." In 1975 he received the National Medal of Science.
