The first edition of Wild Norway, a travel account of the scenic Scandinavian country, written by British hunter-naturalist Abel Chapman. Rebound in navy blue cloth. Contains a frontispiece, all other twelve plates, and numerous in-text illustrations by Chapman, assisted by British painter Charles Whymper, P. Chenevix Trench. Collated complete. A fascinating personal account of Chapman's adventure in the beautiful fjords and fjelds of Norway, including tales of hunting elk and reindeer, as well as fishing for salmon. Despite being a prolific hunter, Chapman aided Walter Buck in creating the Coto Doñana nature reserve in southern Spain which helped save the Spanish Ibex from extinction. English-language edition. Complete with all 24 lithographic plates, each measuring approximately 12" x 9", together with the large folding preliminary title/index leaf. Plates printed in varying monochromatic tones of black, gray, sepia and reddish brown. Pann's haunting series depicts the persecution, displacement and suffering of Eastern European Jews during the pogroms of the First World War era, with subjects including The Cossacks Are Coming, The Flight, The Hostages, Under the Lash, The Cattle-Truck, Lost Children, En Route to Siberia, In the Streets of Warsaw and The Morning After the Pogrom. The designs originated in a larger series Pann began in 1916 in response to reports of anti-Jewish violence in Eastern Europe; 24 were selected for this 1926 Bezalel publication.
