Generally very good internally and despite being defective, still with some remarkable content. The specimens are: Fry & Steele printer's flowers (29 pages); Fry & Steele Printing Types (19 pages), and Caslon & Catherwood Printing Types (10 pages). The book itself is based on J. Smith, The Printer's Grammer, 1787.

A compendium of information on the early nineteenth-century printing trade: payment for compositors, master printers' rates, typographical marks, casting off copy, type specimens, etc. This book is far scarcer than Stower's earlier work The Printer's Grammar of 1808.
