Legatura coeva piena pergamena rigida, titolo ms. al dorso. Una prima edizione di questa fondamentale attenta descrizione degli edifici di Terra Santa venne pubblicata nel 1610, con i disegni incisi da Antonio Tempesta. La presente, con dedica a Cosimo Secondo, è di notevole pregio essendo adorna dei bellissimi rami del Callot, qui in primo stato (su 2). Bernardino Amico, nativo di Gallipoli, frate minore osservante, viaggiò nei luoghi di Terra Santa negli anni 1593-1597 e pubblicò in quest'opera gli appunti e gli schizzi presi sul luogo. Callot (1592-1635) war als französischer Zeichner und Kupferstecher eine Inspiration für E.T.A. Hoffmann. Hoffmann glaubte eine tiefe Seelenverwandtschaft zu Callot zu spüren und gab seine erste Buchveröffentlichung "Fantasiestücke" mit dem Untertitel "in Callots Manier" heraus. 1820 schenkte ihm sein Serapionsbruder D. Comprising frontispiece and 3 etchings (ca. 59 x 120 mm.), numbered 1,2 a. 3 in the plate. All 4 mounted and framed in two (29 x 20 cm.). Mildly brownspotted. The "Small miseries of the War" was unfinished - there was only published 7 etchings (the 4 first offered here).Callot was one of the first great artists to practise the graphic art exclusively.
