At 25 degrees C, the oxygen consumption of the irradiated animals was higher than that of nonirradiated animals by the difference was not significant until the animals were 13 months old. There was no histologic evidence of irradiation injury in sections of the adrenal, the bone marrow, the ear (pinna), the eyes, the kidney, the liver, the lung, the lymph nodes, the peripheral blood, the pituitary, the prostate, the tail, the testis, the thyroid, and the tongue. USAFSAM actively supported civilian and military manned space missions through clinical and physiologic research. USAFSAM is the oldest continually operating school for flight surgeons and other operational medical personnel of its kind in the world.
