Add to basketRed Cloth. Condition: VERY GOOD ( AVERAGE). Not Illustrated (illustrator). First Edition. Since the mid-fifties it has been widely accepted that Britain's strike problem has become increasingly severe. Not only has the unofficial strike come to be seen as the English disease, but more serious large-scale official stoppages have even even threatened the government. The consequent continuing and growing interest in industrial disputes may be due, in part, to their complexity, and to the obvious need for inter - disciplinary studies. As a result, there is still room for disagreement over both the data and their interpretation. This volume seeks to bring together in a convenient form some of the most important available studies of work stoppages in postwar Britain. The writings focus primarily upon the pattern and causes of British disputes. But some material which helps to place Britain's record in the overall international picture has also been included. When seen as a whole, it is hoped that the collection will thus give a general overview of a fascinating subject. The selection of the material has proved difficult, since there must be disagreement about the relative importance of one study compared with another. In the last resort the choice has been governed by the need to provide a comprehensive view of the strike problem, while, at the same time, giving clear expression to at least some of the deeper aspects. The aim has been to present not only an historical picture, but a summary of the generally accepted explanations of strike activity. As a broad background an introduction has been provided which deals with the cost of strikes and the notable period of unrest in the early seventies. A biography of recent material (1970s) has also been included as a guide to further study. 292pp including technical supplement and Bibliography. .This book will be POSTED AT OUR STANDARD RATES FULLY INSURED (UK) ONLY .
