The boards are a bit faded, with minor wear to the extremites. The pages are age-toned, but attractively so, and there is no wear to the text. The book is a goldmine of information about the anatomical features of the horse, cow, sheep, dog and cat, and will help any artist depict these animals more perceptively.

The writings focus primarily upon the pattern and causes of British disputes. But some material which helps to place Britain's record in the overall international picture has also been included. When seen as a whole, it is hoped that the collection will thus give a general overview of a fascinating subject. The selection of the material has proved difficult, since there must be disagreement about the relative importance of one study compared with another. In the last resort the choice has been governed by the need to provide a comprehensive view of the strike problem, while, at the same time, giving clear expression to at least some of the deeper aspects.
