A historically detailed and researched fictionalised account of this event in the English Civil War. A nice copy of this popular work, aimed primarily at a younger readership.

Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper, L B W. Another inscription to the title page, Charles B F Lock'. Written by the English divine, William Gresley. He was a prebendary in Lichfield Cathedral at the time of writing this. Following this he moved to Brighton where he became a volunteer assistant priest. This is the first novel of many religious and social tales written by Gresley and Edward Churton under the general title of 'The Englishman's Library'. Other novels from this series include 'The Siege of Lichfield', 'Charles Lichfield' and 'Consiton Hall'. A very smart copy of this work. In a half morocco binding with paper covered boards. Externally, smart, with light shelfwear to the joints and extremities. Prior owner's inscription to the title page and to the recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright, with just the odd spot. Very Good Indeed. book.
