Black and white illustrated plates throughout. Pages and plates are lightly tanned throughout. Binding remains firm. Boards have light shelf-wear with corner bumping. Spine is in good condition. Staining to front board.

THE BINDING IS REASONABLY FIRM. THIS IS AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF A HARD TO FIND EDITION.

Half leather and marbled boards Covers clean and tight, gilt-paneled spine with black gilt-lettered label in good condition, surface rubbing to leather on front outer corner and besdie top front spine, a few other rubbed spots and edges, but these quite minor. A historically detailed and researched fictionalised account of this event in the English Civil War. A nice copy of this popular work, aimed primarily at a younger readership.

Wolff 2766, describing a copy in original scarlet cloth. Issued as the third volume in the "Juvenile Englishman's Library". Wolff's copy contains a final leaf printing a prospectus of the series, not present in this copy. A moral tale produced "for young persons of the upper and middle classes".

A scarce early issue by the Anastasic Drawing Society published in 1861, the society sought to 'delineate remains of Antiquity' through drawings. (spine strip removed/missing, heavy wear and rubbing to outer boards, inner hinges cracking, light toning to page edges).

The endpapers are very lightly foxed and there is a previous owners details to the front pastedown. The contents are very clean and bright and the binding is strong. Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper, L B W. Another inscription to the title page, Charles B F Lock'. Written by the English divine, William Gresley. He was a prebendary in Lichfield Cathedral at the time of writing this. Following this he moved to Brighton where he became a volunteer assistant priest. This is the first novel of many religious and social tales written by Gresley and Edward Churton under the general title of 'The Englishman's Library'. Other novels from this series include 'The Siege of Lichfield', 'Charles Lichfield' and 'Consiton Hall'. A very smart copy of this work. In a half morocco binding with paper covered boards. Externally, smart, with light shelfwear to the joints and extremities. Prior owner's inscription to the title page and to the recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound.
