The invaluable work of a pioneering figure in English medicine - Gull's work on diseases, in particular nervous disorders such as paraplegia and anorexia nervosa, made incredible strides in the field of human biology. He wrote on numerous subjects, notably anorexia, paraplegia and hormones, he was 'physician extraordinary' to Queen Victoria and oddly suspected of being Jack the Ripper though in his 70s by then and having has a stroke.
