Add to basketPaperback. Condition: New. The World Trade Organization (WTO) is an incomplete contract among sovereign countries. Trade policy flexibility mechanisms are designed to deal with contractual gaps, which are the inevitable consequence of this contractual incompleteness. Trade policy flexibility mechanisms are backed up by enforcement instruments which allow for punishment of illegal extra-contractual conduct. This book offers a legal and economic analysis of contractual escape and punishment in the WTO. It assesses the interrelation between contractual incompleteness, trade policy flexibility mechanisms, contract enforcement, and WTO Members' willingness to co-operate and to commit to trade liberalization. It contributes to the body of WTO scholarship by providing a systematic assessment of the weaknesses of the current regime of escape and punishment in the WTO, and the systemic implications that these weaknesses have for the international trading system, before offering a reform agenda that is concrete, politically realistic, and systemically viable.

Add to basketOriginal hand-coloured engraved map of the Caucasus (52 x 68 cm) dissected into 18 panels and laid onto linen, folding into original marbled paper chemise and slipcase (18.5 x 12 cm) with manuscript title-label to spine. Engraved label of map publisher and cartographer J. Andriveau-Goujon to verso, with manuscript title. Generally an excellent copy handsomely presented in a smart slipcase. Very detailed German language map of the Caucasus based on the latest surveys of the Russian General Staff. Separately issued folding map. Superbly detailed map of the Caucasus including Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and part of Turkey. It is based on the military surveys of the Russian Imperial General Staff and published by the venerable firm of Simon Schropp and Co. This map pre-dates the important surveys by Kiepert in the area but it is very likely that he would have consulted maps like these before his travels.

Engraved calligraphic title, xii, 199 pp. 8vo, orig. cloth-backed printed slick orange boards (a little worn). Berlin: September 1805. This is apparently the first catalogue of globes, maps, and printed geographical works issued by Schropp (1751-1817), the leading publisher and bookseller in cartographical materials in Berlin of his time. Approximately 2500 items are listed, all priced. Due to Schropp's successes, the manufacture of globes shifted from Nuremberg to Berlin. Very good copy. WorldCat lists no copy outside of Germany.
